Analysis of COF supply and demand trends and manufacturer production trends since the second half of 2012.
Emergency report. Analysis of supply and demand trends in the COF market, which is expected to experience significant fluctuations due to the withdrawal of MCS, SamsungTW, and Sumitomo Metal Mining from COF.
At the end of 2011, the withdrawal of MCS, SamsungTW, and Sumitomo Metal Mining from the COF and tape business became apparent. Although there are slight differences in the areas and timing of withdrawal, each company plans to exit the COF market by June 2012. Production capacity will be significantly reduced all at once. Additionally, in the COF market, where the three companies collectively hold about 25% market share, a large free demand will arise. Competition among the companies has already begun, but significant fluctuations in the CO market are expected after the second half of 2012. This report analyzes the demand forecast for COF, trends in production capacity, and production operating rates from the second half of 2012 onwards. It also investigates user trends for the three withdrawing companies, including their supply users and supply volumes, analyzes the potential for existing COF manufacturers to gain market share, and forecasts manufacturer shares for the latter half of the year. Furthermore, by clarifying the positioning of the three withdrawing manufacturers, it provides an outlook for the future tape substrate market.
